Introducing the iPhone Duo

According to НВ — Техно: On October 5th at 14:34, Apple launched its new foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, which notably omits several popular features found in other iPhone models. The device does not include Face ID, a dedicated Camera Control button, or a periscope telephoto lens, marking a significant departure from the latest iPhones.

Unlocking the iPhone Duo requires either Touch ID or a passcode, with the fingerprint sensor conveniently integrated into the power button. While this design may appeal to some users, the absence of the Camera Control button-standard on other iPhones-could limit advanced camera operation for photography enthusiasts.

Camera Setup and Key Specifications

The rear camera system consists of two 48-megapixel sensors: a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle lens. Unlike the iPhone 18 Pro, the Duo lacks a periscope telephoto lens, mechanical aperture, and LiDAR scanner. The external display houses a 12MP front camera, which is noticeably lower resolution compared to the 18MP front shooter on the iPhone 18 Pro. Furthermore, the iPhone Duo does not support professional photography features such as Pro Controls, ProRAW, or spatial photo and video capabilities, thus limiting its appeal for advanced users.

Inside the foldable display, there is an under-screen FaceTime camera, although Apple has not disclosed its resolution. The starting price for the iPhone Duo is set at $2000, approximately 87,000 UAH. Despite missing some standard features, this device aims to attract tech enthusiasts looking for innovation in smartphone design.

The launch of the iPhone Duo highlights Apple's willingness to explore new form factors; however, the absence of several key functionalities may affect consumer reception.

This move also suggests Apple is addressing the growing interest in foldable devices by offering a distinctive option that, although functionally limited, could carve out its own niche. Observing how the iPhone Duo influences the market and competes with other feature-rich smartphones at a similar price point will be crucial in the coming months.

As the iPhone Duo makes its debut, it’s essential to consider how this innovative device compares to other foldable models on the market. For a closer look at Apple's first foldable smartphone and insights into the leading foldable devices expected in 2026, check out our detailed analysis here.
