Power Outages and Fuel Shortages Hit Crimea Following Attack
Electricity Disruptions in Occupied Crimea
According to Главком: A significant portion of occupied Crimea has been left without electricity due to damage to the power grid. The blackout has affected consumers in the Northwestern, Central, and Southern Coast energy districts. Mikhail Razvozhayev, the self-appointed governor of Sevastopol, announced the implementation of a temporary power outage schedule. The company 'Krymenergo' stated:
'Due to damage to the electrical networks, there has been a partial disconnection of consumers in the Northwestern, Central, and Southern Coast energy districts. Emergency restoration work is underway.'
Explosions and Fuel Sales Restrictions
In the early hours of June 21, drones attacked occupied Crimea, causing explosions heard in Simferopol, Kerch, Sevastopol, and other cities. Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Ukrainian defense forces struck the occupiers' military logistics, oil industry, and air defense systems. Targets on both sides of the Crimean Bridge were hit, including maritime logistics for oil transport in the Krasnodar region and an oil depot in temporarily occupied Kerch.
Starting at 9:00 AM on June 21, fuel sales at gas stations in Crimea were halted for civilians. Sergey Aksyonov reported:
'Today, June 21, from 9:00 AM, fuel sales at Crimean gas stations have been suspended for both cash and non-cash payments, as well as for coupons for individuals and legal entities. Fuel will only be sold to government services that ensure the functioning and security of the Republic of Crimea.'
These developments highlight the escalating tensions in the region and the impact of military operations on local infrastructure and the well-being of residents. The power outages and fuel restrictions demonstrate how the conflict is affecting daily life in Crimea, potentially leading to further social and economic challenges. At the same time, the strikes on strategic assets underscore the active efforts of Ukrainian forces to defend their interests in the area.
