The wait time at the Ukrainian-Polish border depends not only on the workload of the checkpoint, but also on the type of transport. Passenger cars, buses, and minibuses undergo border control through different procedures, so the time taken to cross can vary significantly. This is reported by inPoland.

Border with Poland: which transport passes the control faster

Most often, passengers of passenger cars spend the least amount of time crossing the border. This is explained by the smaller number of people in the vehicle, so border guards and customs officers need less time to check documents.

Another advantage of traveling by car is the ability to change routes and choose a less busy checkpoint. This is especially relevant during peak seasons.

However, during rush hours, even personal transport does not guarantee a quick crossing of the border. The longest queues traditionally occur at the checkpoints of «Krakowiec - Korczowa», «Shehyni - Medyka», and «Rava-Ruska - Khrebenne».

Queues at the border with Poland: when is the best time to plan your trip

Buses often have separate lanes or go through control with a special procedure. However, due to the large number of passengers, document processing takes longer, especially if additional checks are required.

Minibuses occupy an intermediate position. They carry fewer people than large buses, but undergo border control under similar rules.

To reduce waiting time, experts recommend:

  • choosing less busy checkpoints;

  • planning trips on weekdays;

  • if possible, crossing the border at night;

  • checking current information about queues before departure.

The workload at the Ukrainian-Polish border traditionally increases before weekends, public holidays, and during peak vacation periods. That is why checking the situation at the checkpoints in advance often allows you to save several hours of waiting.

It should be noted that Polish workers are among the busiest in the European Union. In 2025, the average working week in the country was 38 hours, which significantly exceeds the EU average.
