When do Ukrainians need a visa to enter Germany in 2026
Ukrainians with biometric passports can continue to travel to Germany without a visa, but this rule does not apply to all cases. If the trip is related to work, study, or a long stay, obtaining a visa remains mandatory. This is reported by Visit Ukraine.
When do Ukrainians need a visa for Germany
The visa-free regime allows citizens of Ukraine to stay in the Schengen zone countries for up to 90 days within any 180-day period with a biometric foreign passport.
At the same time, a visa is required in the following cases:

if staying in Germany for more than 90 days;

for work, study, scientific activities, family reunification, or other long-term trips;
-
if the citizen has an old type foreign passport without a biometric carrier.
For short-term tourist or private trips with a biometric passport, a visa is not required.

How to apply for a visa and what documents are required
Before submitting documents, it is necessary to determine the type of visa: Schengen (type C) for short-term trips or national (type D) for long-term stay.
After that, you need to:

prepare a package of documents;

make an appointment at the consulate or visa center;

submit an application and pay the consular fee;

wait for a decision.
Short-term visas are usually processed within 15 days, while the consideration of applications for national visas may take several weeks.
The standard package of documents includes:

foreign passport;
-
two biometric photographs;
-
completed application form;
-
health insurance;
-
proof of financial support;
-
documents confirming the purpose of the trip, including invitations, contracts, proof of education, or accommodation reservations.
