Refugees Named Conditions for Returning to Ukraine: Key Findings of the Survey

Ukrainian refugees in European countries are considering the possibility of returning home if the territorial integrity of Ukraine is restored and reliable security guarantees are provided. A study by the 'ifo' Institute for Economic Research in Munich showed that most respondents are willing to return under certain conditions.

Respondents consider two scenarios: optimistic and pessimistic. Among the important conditions for returning for most are the restoration of borders, joining NATO, security guarantees, and prospects for EU membership. Also crucial is the fight against corruption and the development of the labor market.

The sovereignty over the entire territory of the state and plausible security guarantees are central prerequisites for the return of Ukrainian refugees. Economic factors are not as important for the willingness to return.
