This is madness. The CEO of OpenAI talks about the dangers posed by artificial intelligence
A new wave of cybercrime through artificial intelligence
The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, warned of an impending new wave of cybercrime triggered by the widespread use of artificial intelligence. According to Altman, criminals can easily impersonate others thanks to these technologies, and the scale of the threat will only grow.
“Currently, scammers use voice calls, but soon there will be video calls that will be indistinguishable from real ones,” Altman emphasized.
The FBI had previously warned about AI-related crimes where criminals use technology to imitate the voice or appearance of others. In July, it became known that an unknown individual used a voice imitation of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to contact foreign ministers and American politicians.
The danger of 'superintelligent' AI systems
Among other technological threats, Sam Altman noted the possibility of 'superintelligent' AI systems being created by malicious actors. Foreign states may use these technologies to attack the infrastructure of the USA or to create biological weapons, but the world is not yet ready to face these challenges.
“I fear a scenario where humanity loses control over artificial intelligence or gives it too much power,” Altman admitted.
Elon Musk has expressed outrage over the risks associated with artificial intelligence and has called for limiting this powerful technology, as mismanagement of AI could lead to disaster for civilization.
In recent years, artificial intelligence has become not just a subject of scientific research, but a serious threat to cybersecurity. Cybercriminals are increasingly using AI technologies for their purposes, and this requires attention and measures from governments and companies to counter these threats.
