Andriy Levus: A Political Career in Focus

According to Главком: Ukraine’s Central Election Commission has officially registered Andriy Levus as a People’s Deputy. He was elected during the snap parliamentary vote held on July 21, 2019, representing the European Solidarity party. Levus secured the 29th spot on the party’s nationwide multi-mandate electoral list.

Born on August 9, 1979, in the city of Stryi, Lviv region, Levus graduated from Ivan Franko National University of Lviv in 2002 with a degree in history. That same year, he began his professional career as a teacher of history and law at a secondary school. In 2004, he managed the local campaign headquarters for Viktor Yushchenko during the presidential election.

Professional Background and Key Milestones

From 2007 to 2012, Levus worked as a paid aide to People’s Deputy Andriy Parubiy. In 2012, he ran the campaign office for parliamentary candidate Valentyn Nalyvaichenko in the Zboriv district of Ternopil region. Between 2013 and 2014, Levus served as head of the Maidan self-defense command, and in 2014, he co-founded the civic organization All-Ukrainian Network "Free People." Also in 2014, he held the position of deputy head of the Security Service of Ukraine under Valentyn Nalyvaichenko’s leadership.

In 2014, Levus was elected as a People’s Deputy to the 8th convocation of the Verkhovna Rada, running as an independent candidate on the People’s Front party list, where he ranked 23rd. He chaired the subcommittee on state security within the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense, served on the Military Council of the People’s Front party, and led the executive board of the Free People civic organization. In 2017, he founded the civic group Realists, and in 2018, he co-founded the Ukrainian Strategic Initiative. That same year, he was placed on a sanctions list by the Russian Federation.

During the 2019 parliamentary elections for the 9th convocation, Levus ran unsuccessfully for European Solidarity, again holding the 29th position on the party list. In 2020, the High Anti-Corruption Court ordered a bail of over half a million hryvnias as a preventive measure for Levus. However, in 2021, the court acquitted him in a case involving improper housing compensation, though the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office later appealed that verdict.

Levus’s registration as a lawmaker underscores his long political career, which spans pivotal moments in Ukraine’s modern history, including the Revolution of Dignity and his service in state institutions. Despite facing legal challenges, he continues to play an active role in Ukraine’s political landscape, reflecting his enduring influence. His experience in crisis situations highlights the value of seasoned political figures in shaping the country’s future direction.
