Statement on Russian Aggression

According to Главком: Denmark’s acting Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has warned that Russia is gearing up for another wave of aggression against European nations, held back only by the massive losses its military has suffered in Ukraine. Frederiksen considers an expanded conflict a realistic scenario and suggests that the first phase could involve intensified hybrid attacks.

“Unfortunately, this scenario is possible. I cannot predict exactly how or where the situation will escalate. But I am certain that a new wave of aggression from Russia awaits us,” she said in an interview with the Polish publication Gazeta Wyborcza.

View on the Russian Threat

Frederiksen emphasized that Copenhagen shares Poland’s perspective on the Russian threat and views the war in Ukraine as an attack on the entire European security architecture. “What holds them back are the losses they are suffering in Ukraine. They are stuck, and the war is consuming most of their military resources-including personnel,” she added. Denmark’s General Staff has also warned that Russia could attack NATO before the end of the decade. This assessment aligns with growing concerns among European allies about Moscow’s long-term intentions.

Frederiksen noted that Russia is waging a hybrid war against Denmark, including through drones that violate airspace over military airports. She suggested that new forms of aggression could involve “some kind of false flag operation” or other hybrid warfare tactics. “It is happening everywhere-Russians are constantly crossing borders,” Frederiksen stressed.

Currently, Frederiksen is negotiating the formation of a new government following March elections, but European security issues remain high on the agenda. The enormous losses Russia has sustained in Ukraine continue to act as a deterrent, yet the threat of new aggression persists.

Frederiksen’s statement underscores the seriousness of the ongoing threat Russia poses to European security. By highlighting potential hybrid warfare scenarios, she points to the need for stronger defense measures and international cooperation to neutralize potential risks. Dialogues between Denmark and Poland in this context may play a key role in shaping a joint strategy to respond to Russian aggression.

As concerns about Russian military intentions grow, it's essential to understand the broader implications of these developments. The situation echoes the warnings from various European leaders who believe that Russia may be seeking justifications for a wider conflict. This context highlights the precarious security landscape in Europe and the potential for further escalation in the region.
