Greenhouse Tomato Shortage in Ukraine: Prices Rise Due to Limited Supplies
According to hvylya.net: There is a shortage of greenhouse tomatoes in the Ukrainian market, causing prices for vegetables to rise for the third consecutive week. EastFruit experts note that the limited supply is prompting producers to increase tomato prices.
Today, the average price of greenhouse tomatoes is 80-90 UAH/kg ($1.91-2.15), which is 14% higher than figures at the end of last week. Analysts explain the price increase by the instability of supplies and the low volume of products.
According to market participants, some farms have already completed their current turnover, while others observe a slowdown in crop ripening due to the cooling weather. Supplies from greenhouse farms have virtually stopped, and imported products have yet to compensate for the shortage.
Compared to October 2024, prices for greenhouse tomatoes have increased by 22%. Producers do not rule out further price increases if demand remains stable, arguing this is due to the limited supply of products from local producers.
It is also worth noting that prices for eggs in Ukraine have sharply skyrocketed.
Ukrainian consumers are facing a shortage of greenhouse tomatoes due to limited supply. This leads to an increase in vegetable prices, which are already 14% higher compared to last week. Experts predict that prices may continue to rise, particularly due to the slowed ripening of crops and the halt in supplies from greenhouse farms.
