Demographer Libanova named one of the most important reasons why Ukrainians do not return home
Ukrainians remain abroad due to the treatment of relatives
Director of the Institute of Demography and Social Research named after M.V. Ptukhа of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Ella Libanova stated that most Ukrainians who do not plan to return home after the war remain abroad due to the need for treatment of seriously ill relatives, especially cancer patients.
She emphasized that abroad, cancer patients can receive all necessary medical services for free, including medicines, equipment, and accompanying assistance, thanks to insurance, while in Ukraine most of these services are paid. This is one of the key reasons why Ukrainians decide to stay abroad.
“I am not talking about the quality or availability of medical care, but there it is free. We will have to pay for it,” Libanova stressed.
New drugs for the treatment of HIV and blood cancer
A study published in the journal Cell showed that the drugs tenofovir and dolutegravir, intended for the treatment of HIV, can effectively suppress the transmission of the HTLV-1 virus, which can cause blood cancer. Experiments were conducted on 'humanized' mice that were treated with the specified drugs, which led to the cessation of viral activity in T-cells.
In addition to this, Chief Medical Officer of the National Health Service of the UK, Professor Stephen Powis, stated that cancer is no longer a death sentence, and patient survival after it is expected to increase fourfold over the next 50 years.
The conclusion: The article discusses the fact that many Ukrainians decide to stay abroad due to the possibility of treating seriously ill relatives, which should be free abroad compared to Ukraine. It also mentions the development of new drugs for the treatment of HIV and blood cancer, which could significantly alleviate patients' conditions in the future.
