Eurovision Executive Director Sets the Record Straight

According to Главком: Martin Green, the Executive Director of Eurovision, has firmly denied claims that Russia might be allowed back into the song contest. His remarks come after earlier comments sparked a political uproar just before the 2026 Eurovision grand final. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the event, Green explained that the media had misinterpreted his statements regarding the potential return of the Russian broadcaster.

Green emphasized that there are no ongoing talks or plans to reinstate Russia.

“So let me be absolutely clear. There are no negotiations underway for the return of the Russian broadcaster to Eurovision. And there are no plans in that regard,” he stated.

Previously, in an interview with journalist Pablo O'Hani for LBC, Green had suggested that Russia could be allowed back if its state broadcaster proved its independence from the Kremlin. He also noted that Russia’s disqualification was not based on the fact of the war itself.

Philipp Kirkorov's Involvement and Bulgaria's Victory

Additionally, during Eurovision 2026, Philipp Kirkorov-a Russian singer who supports Russia's war against Ukraine-claimed he helped prepare Bulgaria, which went on to win the grand final. Bulgaria was represented by 27-year-old singer Dara with the song "Bangaranga." Bulgaria's victory marked a major milestone for the contest this year.

Green’s firm denial of any negotiations regarding Russia’s return highlights the ongoing tension in political and cultural relations between Russia and the Western world. Meanwhile, Kirkorov’s involvement in preparing the winning entry raises further questions about the influence of Russian artists on international platforms, despite the political climate. These events underscore the complex challenge of balancing cultural integration with political realities in today’s world.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it’s essential to look back at earlier remarks made by the Eurovision Director, which hinted at the possibility of Russia's return. This discussion has stirred significant debate within the music community and beyond.
