Military Donations Drop 15%: Adviser Steryenko Explains the Crisis
Donations to Ukraine's Armed Forces See Significant Decline
According to Главком: Serhiy Steryenko, an adviser to Ukraine's Minister of Defense, has reported a 15% drop in donations supporting the country's military. He attributed this decline primarily to the difficult economic situation and Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Economic Strain and Attacks on Volunteers Take Their Toll
Serhiy Steryenko, a volunteer and adviser to the defense minister on expanding the use of unmanned aerial vehicles at the front, noted that Ukrainians endured a harsh winter, which negatively impacted citizens' financial capacity. The ongoing war has placed immense strain on both the population and the economy.
'The main reason is Russian terrorist attacks on Ukraine's energy sector and businesses. People had an extremely difficult winter, and this has been reflected in donations. Businesses are also not very eager to help; they are struggling greatly right now,' emphasized Serhiy Steryenko.
Furthermore, he pointed to persistent attacks on volunteers and fundraising organizations as another factor affecting donation levels. 'Attacks on volunteers and funds are carried out partly by Russians through their networks, and partly by certain individual members of parliament,' the adviser added.
Steryenko also expressed regret that, alongside Russians, some Ukrainians wish for the Ukrainian army not to receive critically needed aid.
'It is unfortunate that alongside Russians, some Ukrainians also wish for the Ukrainian army not to receive vitally necessary assistance. But we will continue to do what we must,' he stated.
In conclusion, Serhiy Steryenko assured that despite the difficulties, his team will continue working to supply the army with new drones and expand the use of FPV technology to give Ukrainian soldiers an advantage on the battlefield.
The reduction in military donations is an alarming signal amid the ongoing war and economic instability in Ukraine. This could impact the army's ability to obtain the necessary resources to fight the aggressor. The situation indicates that supporting the army is becoming increasingly difficult, considering not only external challenges but also internal factors such as citizens' financial hardship and attacks on volunteers. Maintaining and strengthening support for the military remains critically important for ensuring the country's defense capabilities.
