Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, in a recent interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman, recommended buying Bitcoin moving forward and shared the story of his investments in cryptocurrency. He admitted that he bought "several thousands" of Bitcoins back in 2013 for about $700 per coin and is still holding them despite market fluctuations.

Durov lives off Bitcoin investments

Durov recalled how in 2014, when the price of Bitcoin collapsed to $200-300, those around him sympathized with his losses.

"I do not plan to sell because I believe in cryptocurrency as a reliable means of exchange that cannot be confiscated or censored," he replied at that time.

Today, investments in the first cryptocurrency have become his main source of income: it is the profit from Bitcoin that allows him to rent elite housing and use private aviation.

"Some think that if I can rent good locations or fly privately, then it's because of Telegram. As I said, Telegram for me personally is a loss-making operation. Bitcoin allows me to stay afloat," Durov explained.

He emphasized that the messenger, despite having hundreds of millions of users, does not bring him personal income – on the contrary, it requires constant investments in development and independence from government pressure.

Bitcoin price $1 million - what Durov believes in

Bitcoin is, in Durov's opinion, an ideal tool for people like him: decentralized and protected from manipulation. The expert predicts a rapid rise for the first cryptocurrency to $1 million per coin. The arguments are simple but convincing:

  • Governments are uncontrollably printing fiat currencies, diluting their value.

  • Bitcoin has a fixed supply – only 21 million coins, with predictable inflation that will eventually go to zero.

  • "Just look at the trends. Governments continue to print money relentlessly. Bitcoin is not printed. It has predictable inflation that will stop. It will remain. As for all fiat currencies – we will see," Durov summarized.

Durov's statement comes against the backdrop of a cryptocurrency boom: in 2025, Bitcoin has already surpassed $120,000, and the global market capitalization reaches $1.2 trillion. The founder of Telegram, who has himself experienced asset arrests in several countries, has always emphasized financial freedom. His investments since 2013 are a classic example of early entry: thousands of coins for $700 today worth hundreds of millions.

Earlier, we reported that Pavel Durov left France in March 2025.
