Former MP Tomenko transferred compensation from the European Court of Human Rights to the Armed Forces of Ukraine: details
According to glavcom.ua: Former Member of Parliament Mykola Tomenko fulfilled the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and sent financial compensation to support the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He announced this in his post on Facebook, which is quoted by 'Glavkom'.
Tomenko noted that the funds he received from the European Court in the case 'Tomenko vs. Ukraine' were transferred for military needs. In particular, he, together with the team of the National Academy of Security Service of Ukraine, sent thermal camouflage blankets, hygiene products, and literature to the 19th Army Corps' drones.
For me, the victory in the European Court was important for setting a judicial precedent against party dictatorship and button-pushing in parliament. Therefore, it would be fair and correct if the funds from my court winnings at the ECHR were paid by officials who illegally deprived me of my parliamentary mandate, and not by the warring state. That is why I decided to direct these funds from my financial compensation as per the decision of the European Court of Human Rights to support the military of our army and I simultaneously call on former MPs, prosecutors, judges... not to disgrace themselves with their lawsuits against the state regarding their exorbitant special pensions and payments
On July 10, the European Court of Human Rights ruled in the case 'Tomenko vs. Ukraine', acknowledging that the deprivation of the MP's mandate in 2016 was a violation of Article 3 of Protocol 1 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
After the higher administrative court refused to recognize the decision on the deprivation of parliamentary status as illegal, Tomenko appealed to the ECHR. The court considered this case and accepted it for review in 2017.
Mykola Tomenko fulfilled the decision of the European Court of Human Rights and sent financial compensation to support the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The funds obtained as a result of the judicial victory were transferred for the purchase of essential items for the military, which is an important step in supporting the army and strengthening human rights in Ukraine.
