How to Prepare for Winter: An Expert's Guide to Reliable Heating
Preparing for the Upcoming Heating Season
According to ХВИЛЯ: Oleh Popenko, an expert in housing and communal services, has issued guidance for the next heating season, highlighting the risks of disruptions to centralized utility networks. During a live broadcast on his YouTube channel 'Oleh Popenko PRO,' he outlined steps residents can take to ensure warmth and comfort in their homes.
Popenko stated that the most reliable option for winter preparation is a private home with a solid-fuel stove and reserves of firewood, gasoline, and diesel.
"The best way to prepare for winter is a private house with a stove, where you have the ability to heat it," said Oleh Popenko.
He also recommends that private homeowners prepare their cellars in advance for storing preserves and grains.
Collective Action for Apartment Dwellers
For residents of multi-story buildings, Popenko advises neighbors to join forces to collectively purchase generators for elevators and powerful inverters for heat supply. He also stressed the urgent need to inspect the electrical networks, panels, and switchboards on every floor of an apartment building:
"It is mandatory to check the networks in an apartment building. On every floor, check the panels and switchboards. This must be done now, as this equipment is highly vulnerable to failure," warned Oleh Popenko.
Additionally, Popenko suggested utilizing state loan programs to install solar panels with a capacity of at least 10 kW, which could be another step toward energy independence. The expert noted that existing threats related to military conflict could lead to the shutdown of centralized systems:
"Gunfire, shelling-and goodbye to the district heating, goodbye to the water supply," remarked Oleh Popenko.
These recommendations come as many in the region face heightened concerns over energy security for the coming months.
Therefore, preparing for the new heating season will require both individual actions and collective efforts from residents of apartment buildings. Considering all these recommendations is crucial to ensure comfort and safety amid potential power supply disruptions. Popenko's experience underscores the importance of proactive measures in the current climate, which can significantly improve living conditions during winter. Given the situation in the country, such preparatory steps could be vital for ensuring the population's comfort and security.
As the heating season approaches, it's crucial to understand the broader implications of energy reliability in the region. Recent insights indicate that the recovery of Ukraine's power grid may take up to three years, raising concerns about prolonged blackouts. This context further emphasizes the importance of proactive measures for both homeowners and apartment residents to ensure a stable heating supply during the winter months.
