Ukraine's Air Defense Missile Supplies from the EU Are Nearly Depleted
Europe's Air Defense Arsenal for Ukraine Is Running Dangerously Low
According to Главком: The European Union has nearly exhausted its own stockpiles of air defense missiles available to send to Ukraine. This critical shortage is compounded by the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which is straining the global arms market. EU nations have actively tapped into their strategic reserves to support Ukraine's air defenses, yet the demand continues to outstrip supply.
Global Arms Market Under Immense Strain
Most modern air defense systems and their missiles, including interceptors for Patriot batteries, are manufactured in the United States. The war in the Persian Gulf region is now rapidly depleting global stocks of PAC-3 interceptor missiles. Over the past 11 days, U.S. allies in the Middle East have fired more than a thousand PAC-3 missiles, significantly impacting the availability of these munitions for other nations, including Ukraine.
Throughout the full-scale war, Ukraine has received approximately 600 PAC-3 missiles, but this is insufficient for comprehensive security against escalating aerial threats. The German government, alongside a group of European nations, has announced plans to deliver an additional 35 interceptor missiles to Ukraine, offering a vital boost. To strengthen Ukraine's air defense network, NATO programs have already allocated over $4 billion.
It is notable that U.S. military expenditures on munitions in the first two days of the war against Iran exceeded $5.6 billion, underscoring the intense pressure on the global defense industry. This situation highlights the urgent need for sustained international coordination to ensure Ukraine's defensive capabilities are maintained. The concurrent demands of multiple conflicts are creating unprecedented challenges for Western military stockpiles.
The arms market is growing increasingly tense due to simultaneous escalations in different regions. The depletion of missile stocks for Ukraine's air defense, against the backdrop of active combat in the Middle East, could impact European nations' ability to sustain Ukraine's defensive posture. This underscores the critical necessity for continued international coordination in providing military support to help Ukraine counter growing aerial threats.
