The European Union has started to implement a new border control system beginning on October 12. Ukraine is already collecting biometric data at three checkpoints - Shehyni, Solotvyno, and Luzhanka. This was reported by the spokesperson of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, as reported by 'Glavkom'.

“This does not mean that all checkpoints will immediately join this system on October 12. This will happen gradually. If we talk about automotive checkpoints on the border with Ukraine and European countries, only 3 checkpoints have joined this system. In particular, these are Shehyni, Solotvyno, Luzhanka,” noted Demchenko.

According to him, at those checkpoints where the system has already been activated, no problems or failures have been recorded so far.

It is worth mentioning that on October 12, new rules for crossing external borders for citizens of third countries, including Ukraine, came into effect in the European Union. This involves the launch of the Entry and Exit System (EES), which automates the collection of biometric data from travelers.
