Moldova may ban fireworks during the holidays: what the ombudspersons suggest
The Human Rights Commissioner of Moldova, Czesław Pankow, and the children's ombudsman, Vasile Coroi, have called for a ban on the use of fireworks during the winter holidays. They justify this proposal by citing harm to the environment and threats to the health of people and animals. The people's advocates of Moldova support this initiative, stating that fireworks pollute the air, water, and soil, and can also be dangerous.
It is noted that some European cities have already refused fireworks in favor of ecological and safe alternatives.
The people's advocates call for supporting better international practices and seeking less harmful ways to celebrate that do not harm the community. They propose limiting the use of traditional fireworks and transitioning to safer and less polluting alternatives. In particular, they urge the Moldovan authorities to ban the sale and use of pyrotechnics and limit their application at public events.
Meanwhile, in Germany, a tragedy occurred during the New Year's celebrations related to fireworks. At least five people died due to careless handling of pyrotechnics. In the town of Geseke, a 24-year-old man died due to the explosion of a firecracker. The police believe that the firecracker was manufactured illegally. Searches for other victims have not yielded results.
