FIFA reacted to Trump's statement regarding the 2026 World Cup
According to glavcom.ua: Donald Trump, the President of the United States, stated that Boston might be excluded from the list of host cities for the 2026 World Cup. In response, FIFA representatives emphasized that security during the tournament is the responsibility of the host country governments, and each city must meet the necessary requirements.
"The responsibility for security undoubtedly lies with the host country governments, and they decide what is best for ensuring public safety. We hope that each of the 16 cities where we will hold the event will be ready for successful hosting and will meet all necessary requirements," FIFA stated.
The 2026 World Cup will take place in the summer in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. It is planned that 16 American cities, 3 cities from Mexico, and 2 cities from Canada will host the event.
Qualification Cycle
UEFA has 16 spots that will be contested over the year from March 2025 to March 2026. The first round of qualification will include 12 groups, with the winners securing a direct ticket to the championship. The second round will feature playoff matches.
In addition to Europe, tickets to the tournament will be awarded to teams from other continents - Asia, Africa, North and South America, and Oceania. The final part of the 2026 World Cup will consist of 48 teams, distributed into 12 groups.
FIFA representatives responded to the statement made by the U.S. President, stating that each host city must be prepared to hold the event and meet all necessary requirements, as the safety of the World Cup depends on the governments of the organizing countries. Two rounds of qualifying matches will be held in Europe, resulting in teams qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
