Transfer of Sanctioned Assets to Ukraine’s State Property Fund

According to Главком: Ukraine’s State Property Fund has added 1,510 sanctioned assets to its balance sheet. A notable portion of these consists of an antique weapon collection that once belonged to Vyacheslav Bohuslayev, the former president of Motor Sich. These assets were handed over after the High Anti-Corruption Court issued rulings on sanctions and ordered the seizure of property for state revenue. Given the significance of this matter, the Fund is now exploring legal options for managing the assets, including the potential transfer of some items to museums.

As of the latest report, the Fund holds 1,510 assets. According to Dmytro Natalukha, most of these are classified as individually defined property. Among the seized items, the antique weapon collection stands out, comprising 500 to 600 pieces. This includes sabers, shashkas, and swords that were confiscated from Vyacheslav Bohuslayev.

'Just the antique weapons from Comrade Bohuslayev alone number around 500 or 600 units. These are sabers, shashkas, swords – and all this stuff landed with us.' - Dmytro Natalukha

Assets Under the Fund’s Management

In addition to the antique weapons, the Fund’s balance sheet includes major properties such as:

  • Ocean Plaza
  • Mykolaiv Alumina Plant
  • Demurynskyi Mining and Processing Plant

These assets were seized from Russian owners, collaborators, and individuals subject to sanctions. During the inventory and valuation process, the Fund is considering transferring the antique weapons to a museum. As Natalukha noted, 'the most logical step would probably be to hand it over to a museum, but honestly, I’m not sure if the Fund even has that function.'

This situation highlights the active efforts of Ukrainian state bodies in combating corruption and managing assets tied to collaborators. Transferring the antique weapons to museums could serve as a symbol of restoring cultural heritage and public memory amid war and economic challenges. Implementing such plans may also raise public awareness about the historical and cultural value of national artifacts.

The recent actions of the State Property Fund not only reflect the ongoing efforts to manage sanctioned assets but also echo the broader initiatives in Ukraine to safeguard cultural heritage. As the Fund considers the future of these antique weapons, similar measures are being taken across the country, where secret storage sites for evacuated museum treasures are being prepared in Western Ukraine. These efforts underline the commitment to preserving national history during challenging times.
