According to glavcom.ua: A participant of the 2009 World Ice Hockey Championship sold his gold medal for 7.5 million rubles at an online auction. The reason for this move was the death of his son, who died during the war in Robotyne while serving in a volunteer capacity.
In other news – Russian speed skater Alexandra Saitova participated in an event promoting Vladimir Putin, violating the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee. This has become controversial amid the conflict with Ukraine and before the participation of Russian athletes in competitions in the USA and Canada.
