Google will allow changing Gmail address without loss of data: how it will work

Changing Gmail address without loss of data
Google надасть можливість змінювати адресу Gmail без втрати інформації: як це реалізується.

New opportunities for Gmail users

According to Главком: Google has announced the launch of a feature that allows users to change their email address to @gmail.com while keeping all account data. This new feature will be available for Gmail account owners who previously could not change their email name without creating a new profile.

Third-party service owners already had the ability to change their email address, but now this feature will also be available to Gmail users. The updates will be gradually implemented for all users. It is important to note that the new email address cannot be edited or deleted for 12 months, and each account can change its address a maximum of three times. The old address will become an alias and will not disappear, which will provide convenience for users.

Further opportunities and antitrust investigation

Users with a new address will be able to continue using Google services, such as:

  • Gmail
  • YouTube
  • Maps
  • Drive
  • Google Play

All data that remains untouched will include photos, correspondence, files on Google Drive, and messages.

It is worth noting that the European Union has launched an antitrust investigation against Google that could impact the company's future decisions. As expert Teresa Ribera stated,

“Artificial intelligence brings significant innovations and benefits for businesses and citizens, but progress should not come at the expense of fundamental principles of society.”

This new feature changes the approach to managing email addresses for Gmail users, providing them with more flexibility without data loss. It can improve the experience of users who want to adapt their email address to changes in their life or professional activity. However, given the current antitrust investigation, the implementation of this feature may also be under close scrutiny by regulators, which could influence further updates of Google services.
