Estonian Court Convicts Man for Russian Espionage

According to Главком: An Israeli citizen, Anatoliy Privalov, has been found guilty of espionage against Estonia's national security by the Harju County Court. The court determined he collaborated with Russian intelligence services, specifically gathering information on Estonian law enforcement, security agencies, and defense infrastructure. The news outlet Hlavkom reported on the case, citing ERR.

Anatoliy Privalov, who owns a logistics company in the city of Sillamäe, had been working for Russian intelligence since 2016. He was detained in October 2025 and subsequently sentenced to six years and six months in prison. During his trips to Russia, Privalov maintained contact with his handlers, confirming his active role in aiding Russian special services.

Espionage Activities in Rivne

The case also revealed that in Rivne, Ukraine, a Russian spy attempted to locate partisan underground networks and obtain personal data of Special Operations Forces (SSO) personnel. Arriving in Rivne in 2021 under the guise of a resident of the Krasnoyarsk Krai with Ukrainian relatives, he began collecting contact information for Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemembers. He planned to transmit the gathered data via encrypted electronic communication channels.

This incident underscores the persistent threat of Russian espionage in the Baltic region, where nations are actively countering such foreign intelligence operations. Estonia, a NATO member, and Ukraine face shared security challenges from Russia, highlighting the need for continued international cooperation against such threats. The decisive legal response in this case demonstrates Estonia's vigilance in protecting its sovereignty and regional stability.
