According to hvylya.net: The European Commission has received applications from 18 EU member states to participate in the SAFE program. Among the applicant countries are Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, and others. Defense and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius noted: 'The strong interest in SAFE demonstrates the unity and commitment of the EU to security and defense. We remain dedicated to supporting member states in strengthening their defense readiness.'

Stimulation of defense production

The SAFE program provides for joint borrowing and lending to EU member states, including Ukraine. The new initiative aims to develop joint production of defense products, particularly munitions, drones, and air defense systems.

Loans will be provided under favorable conditions, and production must be based on at least 65% components from EU countries, Ukraine, or EEA/EFTA countries. The program also allows for limited participation of third countries through relevant agreements to enhance the EU's defense capabilities and support Ukraine.

It is reported that the first member states of the European Union have shown interest in attracting funding from the SAFE defense instrument. The amount of potential investments is 150 billion euros. Participation in this program could facilitate joint production of defense equipment and strengthen security in the region.
