Iranian Gambit: Why Trump Calls the Kremlin Over Europe's Head?
Іранська стратегія: чому Трамп звертається до Кремля, минаючи Європу?

Donald Trump's hour-long conversation with Vladimir Putin, reported by Ushakov, is not just a routine check-in, but an official launch of the mechanics of the 'Big Deal', where the Ukrainian case is finally tied to the Iranian knot.

By initiating this contact, Trump is trying to seize the initiative from regional intermediaries, offering Moscow the role of exclusive arbitrator in the Gulf. The White House desperately needs to curb the risk of a major war in the Middle East and is ready to discuss Russian 'considerations' for resolution, effectively recognizing the Kremlin's right to a say in the zone of U.S. strategic interests.

In this configuration, the mention of 'successful advancement of Russian troops' sounds not like a report, but as Trump's argument in his future dialogue with Kyiv: time is working against you, and the terms of peace will be dictated based on the current map, not your expectations.

Bargaining for Neutrality: Theatre Exchange

Behind this diplomatic courtesy lies a hard calculation: Washington seeks to 'purchase' Russian neutrality in Iran at the expense of concessions on the European theatre. Trump, the businessman, understands that stabilizing the Middle East to acceptable oil prices can't happen without Putin's involvement, so he is ready to recognize Russian influence in Ukraine as part of a new global settlement. This is a direct signal to Brussels, which once again found itself 'out of the room'.

'Diplomacy of Two' and Europe's Role

While Macron and Ursula von der Leyen are frantically trying to revive Istanbul or Swiss formats, the 'diplomacy of two' is already sketching the contours of the future world order, where old alliances in Europe become merely a resource base for securing others' agreements.

Regular Conversations as a Signal of Isolation

The regular nature of such conversations, which the leaders have agreed upon, signifies Europe's final isolation from making key decisions.

Kyiv finds itself in a situation where 'peace at any cost' can be dictated over its head, and European partners will only be faced with the fact of having to pay bills for security, in which they no longer have the right to a decisive voice.

Trump is looking for a way to triumphantly close the Iranian crisis, and if it requires recognizing Moscow's sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, he will do it without unnecessary sentiments. We are entering a period of harsh ultimatums, where the right to define the terms of the game remains with those who hold hour-long dialogues, while the others flail in panic, trying to retain the remnants of subjectivity.
