Italy proposes Olympic truce to the UN: what it means for wars
According to glavcom.ua: Italy has proposed an Olympic truce to the UN during the Winter Olympics in 2026 with the aim of achieving global peace in all conflicts, including Ukraine and the Middle East. Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani announced this at a conference in Rome.
«We must be champions of peace. Given the Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina, we present the UN with a proposal for an Olympic truce for all wars, including Ukraine and the Middle East,» Tajani emphasized.
Tajani also noted that Italy aims to be a 'crossroads of peace, development, and growth,' hoping to achieve general peace. The White House plan for ending the war in Gaza has received support from France, Israel, and Italy.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also supported efforts to cease the conflict in Gaza and free hostages, emphasizing that the Italian government is actively working on this issue.
Italy initiated the establishment of an 'Olympic truce' during the 2026 Olympics to stimulate global cooperation and achieve peace in the world, covering all conflicts, including the most acute points of contention, such as Ukraine and the Middle East. Other countries have also joined this idea, indicating the support of the international community in working towards achieving world peace.
