Confrontation Erupts During Draft Enforcement in Lviv’s Sykhiv District

According to ХВИЛЯ: Around 9:30 PM on Stryiska Street, a crowd overturned a service vehicle belonging to a military recruitment notification team. The incident unfolded after soldiers and police stopped a man for a document check. Authorities discovered he had violated military registration rules and had been wanted for evading service since June 12. He was subsequently taken to a recruitment center.

While one notification group was escorted to the recruitment center, another faced a hostile crowd at the scene that blocked their path. The mob damaged and flipped the official car. Alina Podreiko, spokesperson for the National Police Main Directorate in Lviv Oblast, confirmed the man in question was born in 1996. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Local Authorities Respond and Legal Ramifications Take Shape

Lviv Oblast Military Administration head Maksym Kozytskyi held an emergency meeting with law enforcement, stressing that anyone who obstructed military personnel or committed offenses must be identified and held accountable. The regional recruitment center will also conduct an internal inquiry into whether the soldiers acted lawfully when notifying the man.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi urged the public not to lose sight of Ukraine’s primary enemy and stated he is gathering all details of the event. People’s Deputy Oleksandr Fedienko announced he would file parliamentary inquiries with the National Police and the Lviv City Recruitment Center, calling for a criminal case over the assault on a serviceman. He added:

“Watching this video, you understand why there were no ballistic strikes on the capital. The Russians are rejoicing that we are beating each other up like this.” - Oleksandr Fedienko

Regarding the legal assessment, the recruitment center stated: “This group surrounded the soldiers’ service vehicle, acted aggressively, severely damaged it, and ultimately overturned it. Police are on site. All events will receive a proper legal evaluation. Those responsible will face the penalties prescribed by law.”

Under Article 350 of the Criminal Code, such actions carry up to five years of restriction or imprisonment, while causing grievous bodily harm can result in five to 12 years behind bars.

The episode highlights simmering public tension over mobilization efforts and draft dodging. The swift response from local authorities-including an emergency meeting with law enforcement-underscores the seriousness of the situation and the determination to maintain order. Incidents like this can shape public attitudes toward military conscription and trust in state institutions.
