Extradition of a Ukrainian in the Nord Stream Case: What is Known About the Court's Decision

The Italian court on Monday, October 27, finally approved the extradition of a Ukrainian suspect to Germany. He is accused of participating in sabotage on the 'Nord Stream' gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea in September 2022. This decision paves the way for German prosecutors to directly interrogate the suspect in connection with the explosions that destroyed three of the four pipelines. The man, who under German privacy laws is identified only as Sergey K., was arrested in August 2025 near the Italian city of Rimini, where he was vacationing with his family. Since his arrest, the Ukrainian has been held in a high-security prison in northern Italy.
Sergey K. is considered one of the suspected organizers of the attacks. The German federal prosecutor accuses him of jointly committing the explosion of explosives and of unconstitutional sabotage.
