Russia May Stage Sabotage in Poland While Posing as Ukrainians, Warn Officials
Poland on High Alert Over Possible Russian Sabotage Disguised as Ukrainian Actions
According to Главком: Roman Polko, a former commander of Poland’s elite GROM special forces unit, has raised concerns that Russia could carry out sabotage operations in Poland while pretending to be Ukrainians. This warning has been backed by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who stated that the country is preparing for multiple scenarios amid ongoing threats. According to a report from The Guardian, Latvian intelligence has also compiled an assessment highlighting the risk of Russian provocations targeting Poland and the Baltic states.
Polish security services have repeatedly reported detaining agents of Ukrainian or Belarusian origin who were working for Russian interests. Polko noted that Russia had been planning to deploy so-called 'little green men' under a foreign flag even before its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He stated:
“What we must reckon with-and what Russia had been preparing for even before its full-scale aggression against Ukraine-is the use of little green men under a foreign flag. Under the guise of, for example, disoriented Ukrainians, they could launch an attack on critical infrastructure.” - Roman Polko
Possible Russian Scenarios
The threat of Russian provocations comes as Ukraine’s long-range strikes near Moscow and St. Petersburg increase pressure on the Kremlin. In his comments, Donald Tusk emphasized that the coming months could be critical as the nature of the war in Ukraine evolves: “I don’t want to scare anyone, but the coming months-also due to the changing character of the war in Ukraine-could indeed be critical. These concerns are especially felt in the Baltic states.”
Among the potential Russian actions being considered are:
- Attacks on critical infrastructure
- Large-scale information operations
- Hybrid tactics that may include missile strikes and drone usage
Poland and its neighboring countries continue to strengthen their readiness for potential threats during this turbulent period. This situation highlights the growing tension in the region, where Poland and the Baltic states are facing new security challenges. In the context of the war in Ukraine and possible Russian actions, these countries are being forced to rethink their defense and cooperation strategies. Given their historical and political ties, it is crucial that they act in a coordinated manner to counter any potential threats.
As tensions rise, the potential for Russian military provocations becomes increasingly alarming, underscoring the need for vigilance in Poland.
