Scientists: climate technologies will not save coffee and chocolate

Researchers discuss impending decline of coffee, chocolate, and wine
Дослідження показують, що нові технології в боротьбі зі змінами клімату можуть не врятувати улюблені продукти.

According to glavcom.ua: A recent study published in Environmental Research Letters contains a troubling warning for global markets: even the most radical climate intervention technologies cannot guarantee the preservation of key commodity crops such as grapes, coffee, and cocoa, reports 'Glavkom'.

Researchers investigated the effectiveness of stratospheric aerosol injection (SAI) - a climate engineering technology that mimics the effects of volcanic eruptions. It turned out that even a slight expected decrease in temperature will not save the harvests.

The study results showed that rain instability and increased humidity in many regions of the world threaten plant crops. Investments in sustainable farming methods and adaptation to climate change prove to be more effective and resilient in the long term than climate intervention technologies.

The study showed that even the most innovative technologies may not save the destruction of key agricultural crops due to climate change. It is important to focus more on sustainable farming practices and adaptation to new conditions to ensure food security in the future.
