Acquisition of the company Agro-Region

According to Главком: Agricultural company Kernel has agreed to acquire the Agro-Region group of companies. A decision from the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine regarding permission for the concentration is expected in the near future. This agreement marks an important step in expanding Kernel's land bank, which became the largest exporter in Ukraine in 2024 according to Forbes Ukraine.

The agreement involves the purchase of the entire Agro-Region company, including corporate rights, land bank, equipment, and grain elevator capacities. The deal is expected to be worth between 100 to 110 million US dollars. Agro-Region owns a land bank of 41 thousand hectares located in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytsky regions.

Main Beneficiaries and Their Role

The main beneficiaries of the company are:

  • Aivaras Abromavicius, who owns 53.6% of the shares;
  • Lars Peter Elam Hakansson with a share of 44.28%.

It is worth noting that Abromavicius held the position of Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine from 2014 to 2016, and also served as the head of the state concern Ukroboronprom from 2019 to 2020.

The total export of grain by Kernel in the 2025 fiscal year amounted to 5.4 million tons. In the 2024/25 season, the transshipment of agricultural products at the company's terminals increased by 36% and reached 9.1 million tons. This indicates an increase in the company's activity in the agricultural market of Ukraine.

The acquisition of Agro-Region is a strategic step for Kernel, allowing the company to increase its agricultural capacities and strengthen its position in the market. In the context of growing grain exports and an increase in agricultural product transshipment volumes, such an agreement could be a significant factor for the further development of the agricultural sector in Ukraine, particularly in light of increasing demands in international markets.
