Kiev resident organizes men's smuggling abroad
Чоловік з Київської області підозрюється в організації нелегальної схеми перетину кордону за плату.

Illegal Smuggling of Men Across the Border

According to Главком: Authorities in the Kyiv region have charged a 64-year-old local resident with orchestrating an illegal operation to smuggle men of conscription age out of the country. The price for his services was set at €18,000. According to investigators, the suspect would identify potential clients and then provide them with detailed instructions on routes and methods for crossing the border, often using cargo vehicles to evade detection.

Law enforcement officers documented the suspect's illegal activities and arrested him while he was in the process of collecting payment. Searches conducted during the operation uncovered physical evidence linking him to the crime. The investigation is proceeding under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a maximum penalty of up to nine years in prison, along with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years, as well as asset forfeiture.

Other Arrests in the Capital

Separately, several other individuals were detained in Kyiv on similar charges. These include:

  • A 34-year-old man who sold fake employment documents at critical infrastructure sites to help clients dodge mobilization, charging $1,700 for his services.
  • A 32-year-old founder of a private law firm who posed as a colonel in a fictitious internal service committee, convincing a client that he could influence military enlistment office staff in exchange for $30,000.

These cases highlight ongoing issues with illegal border crossings and fraud related to military conscription in Ukraine.

The arrests of those involved in smuggling and fraudulent schemes underscore the severity of the situation amid Ukraine's ongoing mobilization efforts. During wartime, when scrutiny of the draft is heightened, such crimes pose a threat to national security and undermine public trust in the rule of law. Law enforcement agencies are actively working to uncover and dismantle these networks, reflecting a growing focus on cracking down on offenses in this sensitive area.

These recent arrests are part of a larger trend in the Kyiv region, where authorities are cracking down on various schemes aimed at evading military service. For instance, a man was apprehended for selling fake job opportunities to assist individuals in avoiding the draft. This highlights the increasing desperation among conscription-age men and the lengths to which some will go to escape military obligations.
