Six New Pocket Parks Already Open in Kyiv, with Four More on the Way by Year-End
Kyiv Expands Its Network of Pocket Parks
According to Главком: Kyiv continues to roll out pocket parks-small green spaces designed to improve the local environment and give residents more places to relax outdoors. Since the start of the year, municipal greenery maintenance crews have completed six new sites across six different districts. City officials plan to add four more pocket parks before the end of 2023.
Where the New Green Spaces Are Located
The newly installed parks are spread throughout Kyiv's neighborhoods. Here is the full list:
- Holosiivskyi District: Phase two of work finished on Volodymyro-Lybidskyi Boulevard;
- Desnianskyi District: A new park opened on Liskivska Street;
- Pecherskyi District: A new green area on Mykoly Mikhnovskoho Boulevard, near Zvirynetska metro station;
- Sviatoshynskyi District: A mini-park at the intersection of Chornobylska and Oresta Vaskula Streets;
- Shevchenkivskyi District: A new green space on Belhiiska Alley;
- Solomianskyi District: A park on Povitrianykh Syl Avenue, built on the site of removed temporary structures.
According to the city's roadmap, four more locations are scheduled to open by year-end in the Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, and Podilskyi districts. Notably, Solomianskyi and Sviatoshynskyi already rank as Kyiv's greenest districts, with greenery coverage reaching 51%. These efforts are part of a broader push to improve quality of life by making nature more accessible within the urban environment.
Creating pocket parks is a key step in boosting Kyiv's ecological health and giving residents more opportunities for active outdoor recreation. With further green space development already planned, the city aims to build a balanced urban-ecological environment that can positively impact residents' health and well-being. This initiative reflects the municipal government's commitment to sustainable development and to making the capital a more comfortable place to live.
In addition to enhancing green spaces, the city is also embracing creative landscaping projects. Recently, a stunning flower bed shaped like traditional borscht was unveiled, showcasing Kyiv's rich cultural heritage. This artistic installation, designed on an embroidered towel, exemplifies the city's commitment to blending nature with local traditions. To explore this unique floral tribute, click here.
