Kyivstar Phases Out 3G in Multiple Regions: How to Configure Your Phone for 4G
Network Upgrade from 3G to 4G
According to ХВИЛЯ: Beginning April 7, mobile operator Kyivstar will start a scheduled shutdown of its 3G network in several Ukrainian regions, migrating customers to the 4G standard. This infrastructure upgrade commences at midnight, with details published on the company's website. The cost of current tariff plans will remain unchanged.
Affected Regions
The modernization will impact several Ukrainian regions, including:
- Rivne Oblast
- Volyn Oblast
- Cherkasy Oblast
- Chernihiv Oblast
In Rivne Oblast, connectivity improvements will occur in cities such as Rivne, Kostopil, Ostroh, Berezne, and Klevan. Decommissioning the 3G network will free up radio frequencies, facilitating further infrastructure upgrades, including preparations for future 5G deployment.
To ensure uninterrupted service, subscribers are advised to check their device settings before April 7. For 4G operation, it is necessary to enable automatic network selection and activate the VoLTE function, which allows voice calls over the 4G internet connection.
This upgrade is part of a broader strategy among Ukrainian mobile operators to enhance connection quality and implement new technologies. This transition to 4G is a common step for telecoms globally, aiming to improve internet speeds and lay the groundwork for future 5G networks, which will unlock new opportunities for subscribers and businesses across the country.
