China's Foreign Minister Calls for U.S.-China Dialogue

According to Главком: At the annual parliamentary session in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the critical need for dialogue between the United States and China. He warned that a failure to engage would only lead to misunderstandings and miscalculations, escalating into confrontation and harming the global community.

"A refusal of interaction between our two nations will only breed misunderstanding and misjudgment, which will grow into confrontation and inflict damage upon the world,"

Wang stated. He added that

"a high-level exchange of views is already on the agenda. Both sides must conduct thorough preparations to foster a conducive environment for resolving existing differences."

This diplomatic push comes as U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to China is scheduled for late March to early April 2026. While the exact date for Trump's meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping remains unconfirmed, diplomats from both nations are actively working on the agenda. Notably, China had not previously announced a March summit between the two leaders. The planned visit underscores the complex yet crucial nature of the bilateral relationship.

Regional Tensions and China's Military Posture

During the same press conference, Wang Yi also criticized military actions in the Middle East, asserting that

"a hard fist is not the same as a hard argument. The world cannot revert to the 'law of the jungle.' Resorting to force on every occasion does not prove one's strength."

Concurrently, China continues to conduct military exercises around Taiwan, raising international concern. Diplomatic friction has also emerged with Japan following remarks by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and incidents involving Philippine vessels have occurred in the disputed South China Sea. These events highlight the multifaceted regional tensions that complicate the broader geopolitical landscape.

Wang Yi's calls for dialogue reflect efforts by both powers to reduce bilateral friction. Despite the planned Trump-Xi meeting, persistent issues like China's military drills near Taiwan and unresolved territorial disputes remain significant challenges to regional stability. Sustained dialogue and interaction are therefore seen as vital tools for preventing conflict and managing the competitive relationship between these two global powers.
