Kyiv residents who managed to purchase rides at the current fare of 8 UAH will not lose them after the planned fare increase. The city administration has defined a transition period during which old rides will remain valid even after the change in fares. This is reported by Suspilne referring to the response from the Department of Economics and Investments of KMDA.

Rides for 8 UAH in Kyiv will be valid for another two months

The KMDA announced that all rides purchased before July 14, 2026, at the old price can be used until September 14.

Thus, passengers will have two months after the fare increase to use already purchased ride packages without additional costs.

After the transition period ends, unused rides will not be canceled. They will be automatically converted into a monetary equivalent and credited to the balance of the transport card or electronic ticket.

New fares in Kyiv may be implemented from July 15

Currently, the city authorities are processing the results of the public discussion on the project decision on fare changes. After that, the document must be approved according to the established procedure.

If the decision is adopted, starting from July 15, a single ride on public transport in Kyiv will cost 30 UAH.

For transport card holders, a discount system is promised. Depending on the number of purchased rides, the cost of one ride will range from 25 to 30 UAH.

A unified ticket for 60 UAH will allow transfers

Separately, the KMDA confirmed plans to launch a new electronic ticket starting August 1, 2026.

Its cost will be 60 UAH, and the main advantage will be the ability to transfer between different modes of transport free of charge within 90 minutes after activation.

The new ticket will be valid on the metro, buses, trams, trolleybuses, and the funicular.

City officials explain the need for a fare increase due to rising costs for electricity, fuel, rolling stock repairs, and wages. According to transport enterprises' calculations, the economically justified fare in the metro exceeds 64 UAH per ride, while in surface transport, it is over 44 UAH. The last fare review in Kyiv was in 2018.

Recall that partial traffic restrictions on one of the key transport arteries in the Pechersk district were implemented in Kyiv for almost a month.
