Commander on the problem of desertion

According to ХВИЛЯ: Deputy Commander of the Third Army Corps, Dmytro Kukharchuk, expressed concern about the problem of unauthorized abandonment of units in the Ukrainian military. He noted that this issue is related to the lack of systematic communication and motivational strategies, which negatively affect the morale of soldiers.

Lack of motivation and communication

Dmytro Kukharchuk pointed out that Ukraine lacks a national strategy to motivate military personnel, which is one of the factors contributing to desertion. He emphasized that the existence of a communication vacuum with the command also affects the morale of servicemen. This, in the officer's opinion, requires urgent action from the Ministry of Defense.

'The first step that could be taken would be for the Ministry of Defense to give people the option to return to service, but with the condition that they have the right to choose the unit they want to return to.' Dmytro Kukharchuk

This initiative could help enhance motivation among military personnel. Moreover, Kukharchuk expressed the need for an honest explanation to Ukrainians about the consequences of defeat through the lens of history. He noted:

'We are ashamed to learn from the Russians some things, while they learn everything from us.' Dmytro Kukharchuk

The officer underscored the importance of learning historical lessons to improve service conditions and raise the level of trust between the command and servicemen.

The issue of desertion in the Ukrainian military is a critically important topic that requires urgent resolution. The absence of effective communication and motivational strategies can lead to serious consequences for combat spirit and the readiness of the army. The initiatives proposed by Dmytro Kukharchuk could be key to improving the situation; however, their implementation will require efforts from the Ministry of Defense and society as a whole.
