Ukrainians, who have moved to Poland, often change their area of employment after migration. About 40% of Ukrainian citizens find jobs in a different sector than the one they worked in before. Another quarter find work in their previous profession, while almost every fourth person was not economically active at all before arriving. This is reported by InPoland citing a report by the Polish Economic Institute (PIE).

The research shows that eight out of ten Ukrainian immigrants work in labor-intensive sectors with low entry barriers. These sectors have been experiencing labor shortages for many years, significantly simplifying the employment of newcomers. Analysts note that this employment model is typical for the first years of migrants' stay in a new country.

  • construction — 13.5%;

  • transport and warehousing — 12.1%;

  • trade and repair of vehicles — 9.2%;

  • hotel and restaurant business — 6.6%.

It is in the service, trade, tourism, and hospitality sectors that changing fields happens most often — over half of the workers previously worked in other sectors.

Ukrainians in Poland: work by profession and prospects

In more specialized fields — healthcare, IT, education, and finance — the situation is different. Here, about half of Ukrainians continue to work in their profession. Experts from PIE emphasize that over time, with improved language skills, acquisition of local experience, and recognition of qualifications, the positions of Ukrainians in the Polish labor market are gradually strengthening.

Earlier, we reported that 81% of Ukrainians in Poland independently provide for their housing.
