Apartment for 6000 hryvnias per month: who in Ukraine will get affordable housing from the state
Ukraine is launching a new social program - a municipal housing fund for rent, which will provide affordable housing to citizens in difficult situations, particularly those affected by the war.
Who can benefit from the program
The program is intended for soldiers, veterans, families of fallen defenders, internally displaced persons, orphans, as well as budget sector workers, such as teachers, healthcare professionals, and utility workers.
Conditions and rental costs
Candidates must meet certain criteria, particularly not having their own housing and complying with area requirements. Financial expenses for renting a one-room apartment are expected to be around 6000 hryvnias per month.
The journalist Irina Polyakova reported this, referencing the draft law 'On the Basic Principles of Housing Policy', proposed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Program financing
Funds for the program will come from local budgets and attracted loans and grants from international partners. Revenues from rentals will go towards the construction of new housing for the needs of the selected category of citizens.
Together with the World Bank, 540 million hryvnias have already been allocated for the repair of 200 multi-story buildings in communities affected by the war.
The new social program in Ukraine anticipates the creation of a municipal housing fund to provide affordable rentals to citizens in difficult life circumstances, particularly those affected by the war. The program targets veterans, military personnel, families of fallen defenders, internally displaced persons, orphans, as well as budget sector workers, and aims to address housing issues for the most vulnerable groups of the population.
