If you do not have medical insurance in Poland, any illness or injury can be a real blow to the budget. Although in critical situations, when it comes to life and death, assistance will be provided to everyone without exception, the bill for medical services provided will have to be paid in full - it can amount to several tens of thousands of zlotys.

How Much Treatment in a Hospital Costs: Specific Figures
Even a short hospital stay will cost thousands of zlotys. For example, in the Warsaw Voivodeship Infectious Disease Hospital, the prices are as follows:
- The first three days of treatment in the infectious department - 5000 zlotys (fixed fee upon hospitalization);
- Each subsequent day of stay - 800 zlotys;
- Everything else - tests, medications, specialist consultations, and medical procedures - is paid separately.
The cost of specialist services is also high:
- Consultation with a professor - 500 zlotys.
- Consultation with a senior physician - 400 zlotys.
- Consultation with a doctor with a scientific degree - 350 zlotys.
- Examination of a person who is a potential source of infection - 230 zlotys.
Cost of Laboratory Tests
Patients without insurance are forced to pay for each test:
- General urine test - 25 zlotys.
- Total cholesterol - 12 zlotys.
- Lipid profile package (cholesterol, HDL, TG, LDL) - 52 zlotys.
- Acute phase protein (CRP) - 25 zlotys.
- HIV antibodies - 35 zlotys.
How Much Family Doctors Charge (POZ)
A regular appointment with a family doctor, who belongs to primary healthcare, costs approximately 200 zlotys just for the consultation. And if the doctor refers to additional examinations, the amount increases:
- General blood test (morphology): 25-40 zlotys
- General urine test: 20-30 zlotys
- Glucose level test: 15-25 zlotys
- Electrocardiogram (ECG): 50-80 zlotys
- Abdominal ultrasound: 150-200 zlotys
Thus, even a regular preventive visit with basic examinations can cost 300-500 zlotys.
