Київ приймає військову естетику як частину щоденного життя.

How War Is Reshaping Kyiv’s Culture

According to Главком: After four years of full-scale war in Ukraine, everyday life in Kyiv has undergone a profound cultural shift. Civilians across the city are increasingly adopting army-inspired aesthetics into their wardrobes. Veterans and active-duty soldiers have emerged as key style influencers, driving new fashion trends. Local brands like M-TAC and Riot Division have pivoted to producing tactical clothing that meets both modern needs and wartime realities.

M-TAC, a label known for its streetwear, was hit twice by Russian missile strikes-in 2022 and again in 2024-but continues to operate. Riot Division, which focuses on functional modular apparel, offers a 50% discount to military personnel, medics, and journalists, showing its support for those serving the country. The brand’s logo features a silhouette throwing a Molotov cocktail, reinforcing its military-inspired identity.

Current Trends in Fashion

Kyiv is home to the Mojave boutique, which showcases over 70 Ukrainian brands. This store partners with the frontline unit Honore, and all proceeds are directed toward supporting combat forces. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy frequently appears in military-style clothing, further popularizing this look among civilians.

While civilians in Kyiv are permitted to wear khaki, using digital camouflage-known as pixel-is considered poor taste. This shows that despite the integration of military aesthetics, there are still boundaries to observe.

Ukrainian Fashion Week has also adapted to these changes. The event featured a fall/winter 2026/2027 collection show that included notable figures like veteran Kristina Sanina and strongman-turned-lawmaker Vasyl Virastyuk. The runway reflected the new fashion trends shaped by war, highlighting how Ukrainian fashion is evolving to meet contemporary realities.

These fashion shifts do more than mirror war’s impact on culture-they also underscore the resilience of Ukrainian society amid ongoing challenges. The blending of military aesthetics into everyday style signals a deep connection between civilians and the armed forces, reinforcing national unity during a difficult period. Additionally, the support for Ukrainian brands through fashion events reflects a broader effort to revive the country’s economy and culture despite the hardships.
