In Reserve+, Automatic Teacher Deferments Are Being Put to the Test by Ukraine's Defense Ministry
Auto-Deferment for Educators: What the New Beta Test Means
According to ХВИЛЯ: A new capability has entered beta in Ukraine's Reserve+ app: automatic mobilization deferments for schoolteachers and other pedagogical staff working in general secondary schools. The beta is open to educators whose primary workplace is a school and who hold at least a 0.75 full-time-equivalent position. This test reflects a broader wartime push to move military administrative processes online.
Once the service goes live, the system will automatically cross-check information in official state registries, meaning teachers will not have to submit documents through administrative service centers (TsNAPs). Educators wishing to join the trial need to complete a Microsoft Forms questionnaire.
Expanding What Reserve+ Can Do
Earlier, Reserve+ introduced online deferments for researchers and university instructors. Around the same time, however, deferments for people with disabilities started disappearing from the app. The Defense Ministry is asking all interested educators to take part in testing this new feature.
Automating the deferment process for teachers is an important step toward keeping Ukraine's education system functioning during mobilization. Reducing paperwork can ease the burden on educators and allow them to concentrate on teaching. It also points to a wider government effort to adapt mobilization policies to the needs of different professional groups and to recognize their value to society.
