The International Judo Federation Allowed Russians to Compete Under Their Flag
The International Judo Federation (IJF) has opened the doors for Russian athletes, allowing them to compete under their national flag at international tournaments. Previously, they competed as 'neutral' athletes, but now they will compete with the anthem and symbols of their country. This decision was made at a meeting of the IJF Executive Committee.
The nearest tournament where Russian athletes can compete under the national flag will be the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi from November 28 to 30. Nineteen athletes from Russia are expected to participate in this tournament.
It should be noted that the participation of Russian female athletes, including speed skater Aleksandra Sajtina and skier Veronika Stepanova, in a propaganda event sparked outrage and was deemed a violation of the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee regarding the participation of neutral athletes.
Sajtina has already received visas to participate in two stages of the World Cup in the USA and Canada before the 2026 Olympics, which will take place in Italy from February 6 to 22. We will watch the further developments of these events and hope for sports achievements without political scandals.
