Young Americans Grow Disillusioned with Trump

According to ХВИЛЯ: Political analyst Mikhail Shteynbok, speaking on the program of political scientist Yuri Romanenko, reported a wave of disillusionment among young Americans, particularly men, with former President Donald Trump. This stems from his failure to deliver on promises regarding housing affordability and the ongoing surge in living costs. Many young voters who actively supported Trump in previous elections are now turning away due to the economic hardships they face daily.

A significant portion of young people in the U.S. are forced to live with their parents until age 30. Over 51% of young men voted for Trump, hoping for an improvement in the housing situation. However, as Shteynbok notes,

"a huge part of the youth lives with their parents there until they are 30, unable to move out. And first and foremost, these are young men who, because of this, cannot start families and who are disappointed."

Economic Strain Shifts Political Sentiment

According to the analyst, young people had hoped Trump could reverse this trend, but that has not happened. They now confront persistent problems with housing affordability and relentless price increases.

"Right now, one of the mainstream rhetorical battles in the U.S. is the fight for affordability. Prices for cars and for housing, first and foremost, have risen very sharply, and young people simply cannot afford to buy new housing," he adds.

Consequently, this growing disillusionment among the youth with Trump signals a potential shift in political sentiment within this key voter bloc, which could significantly impact future U.S. elections. The rising cost of living is a central issue for this demographic, making their support volatile. This dynamic underscores how crucial economic issues are in the political arena. As young people grapple with housing difficulties, it may lead to a realignment of support for candidates in upcoming races. The success or failure of politicians in addressing these socio-economic problems could become decisive factors in determining their popularity among young voters.
