Russian Propaganda Against the EU: How Narratives Affect Perception of Standards
According to hvylya.net: The head of the Ukraine2EU project, Mante Makauškaite, stated in an interview with Ukrinform that Russian propaganda seeks to distort reality and perceptions about the European Union, trying to portray it as overly bureaucratic.
'I want to emphasize that – not without the help of Russian narratives – there is a perception of excessive bureaucracy and complexity in the EU. However, its standards are the hallmark of quality. Trust in 'Made in EU' products is widespread from Berlin to Nairobi, not just within Europe,' emphasized Makauškaite.
A Great Opportunity for Ukrainian Business
According to Makauškaite, membership in the European Union offers great prospects for Ukrainian businesses. She noted that Ukrainian companies are successfully integrating into the European market.
'This is a great opportunity for Ukrainian businesses, which are already strong and partially integrated into the European market. Of course, there will be costs associated with compliance with standards, but I am from Lithuania. Our experience shows that after accession, the economy develops rapidly,' explained Makauškaite.
Russian propaganda attempted to distort perceptions about the European Union, portraying it as overly bureaucratic, but Makauškaite emphasizes that loyalty to 'Made in EU' products is high, not only among Europeans but also beyond their borders. Membership in the EU opens new opportunities for Ukrainian businesses in the international market and fosters their integration with European companies, albeit with costs for compliance with standards.
