President Volodymyr Zelensky met on February 27 with former Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin to discuss the foreign policy situation around Ukraine. The head of state announced personnel changes in the diplomatic corps and the creation of a separate direction regarding Belarus.

According to the president, Ukrainian interests should be represented at both the official level and in interaction with communities in countries that are under Russian influence or do not have full freedom.

Special representative for Belarus: Ministry of Foreign Affairs prepares candidates

Volodymyr Zelensky announced plans to intensify diplomatic work in the Belarusian direction.

«There will be personnel changes in the diplomatic corps. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also preparing candidates for the appointment of a special representative regarding Belarus and the Belarusian community in Europe. A more active policy is needed», — the president stated.

Currently, the specific name of the candidate has not been announced. It is not officially reported whether Pavlo Klimkin will become the special representative.

Personnel changes in the diplomatic corps: what is known

The head of state emphasized that in wartime, Ukraine needs to work more actively with international partners and civil communities in countries where Russian influence remains significant.

It is expected that a decision on the appointment of the special representative will be made after the submission of the relevant candidates by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Thus, Kyiv plans a separate diplomatic format for interaction with the Belarusian society and diaspora in Europe.

He noted that during the first two years of the full-scale conflict, he practically lived in a bunker, which became a necessity due to the constant threat.
