Maria Volochanska, the legendary doctor and participant of the OUN, passed away in Kalush at the age of 101
Maria Volochanska was born on May 30, 1925, in the village of Sivka-Voynilivska. At a young age, she joined the ranks of the OUN and later completed nurse training courses, being assigned to the hundred 'Beya'.
According to glavcom.ua: Maria Vasylivna Volochanska, a renowned doctor, public figure, and participant of the national liberation movement, passed away in the city of Kalush at the age of 101. The Kalush City Council announced her death, according to 'Glavkom'.
In 1951, Maria Vasylivna graduated from the Stanislav Medical Institute and began her medical career. From 1953, she worked at the Kalush District Hospital, where she headed the infectious disease department from 1957 until her retirement.
She was the founder of the Kalush District Organization 'Union of Ukrainian Women', actively participating in public life and the struggle for Ukrainian statehood. For her work, Maria Volochanska is considered a participant in the UPA combat operations.
Maria Volochanska raised two children together with her husband Myroslav Volochansky.
The life and fate of Lydia Tykhovlizh
It is worth noting that Lydia Tykhovlizh, a long-time prisoner of Soviet camps and liaison of the OUN, passed away at the age of 97 in Stariy Sambir, Lviv region. 'Glavkom' reported this with reference to the 'Local History' project.
Tykhovlizh was born on December 15, 1928, in a nationally conscious family of Maria and Mykola Dzhulynskyi. While studying at the Lviv Conservatory, Lydia joined the OUN youth network and served as a liaison. On February 26, 1946, Lydia was arrested by the NKVD. She was held in the 'on Lontskoho' prison for six months. She was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment and five years of deprivation of rights.
Both lost personalities, Maria Volochanska and Lydia Tykhovlizh, were outstanding representatives of their time and made a significant contribution to the struggle for Ukrainian statehood and freedom. Their life paths and contributions reflect the complex history of Ukraine in the 20th century, where they were active participants. They will be remembered as true heroes who devoted their lives to the faith in the future of their country.
