Russian digital ruble in the occupied territories: how the Kremlin will gain total control
Starting October 1, the Russian 'digital ruble' will begin to be used in the temporarily occupied territories. This news was announced by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
It is known that part of the social payments will be issued in 'digital' form. There are plans for the period of 2026-2028 to massively introduce the 'digital ruble' involving the largest banks and commercial companies. Money will be stored in special digital wallets, accessible through banking mobile applications and internet banking.
'Thanks to the digital form of currency, the state gains complete control over citizens' and legal entities' transactions, tracking any purchase and financial flows. The Kremlin can limit the spending of 'digital rubles' based on residence or type of goods, as well as block citizens' accounts without a court decision, automatically deducting taxes, fines, and other payments,' the Center reported.
Experts emphasize that the introduction of the 'digital ruble' is not just a new technology, nor just a simplification in the circulation of money, but yet another way to control the population and businesses. The use of this system in the occupied territories of Ukraine indicates Russia's intent to further 'integrate' them into its social and financial sphere, robbing the local population of financial freedom.
