Ukrainian MP Bitten by Unrestrained German Shepherds During Park Run
Lawmaker Attacked by Dogs While Jogging
According to Главком: Georgiy Mazurashu, a member of Ukraine's parliament, was bitten by two German Shepherds while on a run in a park. The dogs, which were unleashed and unmuzzled, attacked the deputy. Their owner, a woman, was unable to control the animals at the time. Mazurashu shared photos from his run and of the bite wound on his leg, stating the owner's explanation was that he was 'running too fast.' This incident highlights ongoing public safety debates regarding pet control in Ukrainian cities.
"A woman was walking in the park with two German Shepherds without muzzles or leashes. Only one attacked, and that's enough. It bit me a little before the woman managed to restrain it. She 'explained' that I was running too fast, so the dog attacked. I didn't have the time or opportunity to call the police. But I hope no one else was hurt. Perhaps they were running more correctly." - Georgiy Mazurashu
Mazurashu's Legislative Work
The attack occurred as Mazurashu remains active in the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament. During the current ninth convocation, he has authored or co-authored 887 legislative initiatives. Among his recent proposals are:
- A draft law to establish a national Day of Thanksgiving in Ukraine;
- Draft law No. 15045, dated February 24, 2026, proposing to establish a Bible Day without making it a public holiday.
The dog attack underscores the critical importance of adhering to pet restraint laws in public spaces like parks. The absence of leashes and muzzles can create dangerous situations for both people and animals. Meanwhile, Mazurashu's prolific legislative output indicates his commitment to continuing his parliamentary duties despite personal incidents.
