How much fuel has become more expensive in the last six years
In Ukraine, over the past six years, fuel has become significantly more expensive: the price of gasoline A-95 and diesel has nearly doubled, while liquefied gas has increased nearly threefold. The rise occurred in waves, first due to excises, and then due to the war and strikes on oil refineries. This is reported by “Slovo i Dilo”.
Price Increase for Gasoline and Diesel
According to analysts, in 2019, a liter of A-95 cost 28.6 UAH. In 2020, the price dipped, but after a year, it went up again, and after May 2022, it jumped over 42 UAH. By the end of 2022, the average price exceeded 50 UAH, and in the autumn of 2025, it reached about 58 UAH. Diesel experienced a similar trajectory: from 27.9 UAH in 2019 to 55–57 UAH by the end of 2025.

The estimated dynamics of the increase looked like this:
-
gasoline A-95: 28.6 UAH → over 50 UAH → 58 UAH
-
diesel: 27.9 UAH → over 55 UAH
-
liquefied gas: 11–12 UAH → over 40 UAH → 34–37 UAH.
The Largest Price Jump for Gas
The most dynamic changes concerned autogas. In 2019, a liter cost 11–12 UAH, and in 2022, the price soared to over 40 UAH. After that, the market partially cooled down, but there were again peaks during the cold months. In 2025, gas remained in the range of 34–37 UAH, which literally means a threefold increase in price over six years.
The authorities attribute the reasons to the harmonization of excise taxes with EU norms and the needs of the budget and military. The law amending excise rates, adopted in September 2024, provides for their gradual increase until 2028. Prices were also influenced by market fluctuations, fuel shortages at certain times, and the consequences of attacks on energy facilities. All this has made the Ukrainian fuel market one of the most unstable in a long time.
